Logical Reasoning: Analogies

Logical Reasoning:

Logical reasoning means the prediction of an unknown relationship between two objects based on a given relationship or using a known fact. Various problems can be identified as logical reasoning. One has to make use of his/ her logical ability to attack such problems. It has been seen that more practicing can improve logical reasoning skills.

Example: Time series, Analogy, Verbal Classification, etc.

Analogy:

Analogy is a cognitive process of establishing logical relationships between objects. It can easily be explained using pictorial examples.

Example 1: Analogy (Logical Reasoning)

Logical Reasoning: Analogies

Explanation:

The given question:   Bookshelf :  Book :: Computer :   ?

We can store books on a bookshelf right! Similarly, we can store data on a computer. So the right answer would be DATA.

Example 2: Analogy (Logical Reasoning)

Logical Reasoning: Analogies

Explanation:

The given question:   Odometer :  Mileage :: Compass :   ?

We get the idea of the mileage of a car using an odometer. Applying the same logic, the compass helps us finding the direction in an unknown place.

So the answer is DIRECTION.

Example 3: Analogy (Logical Reasoning)

Logical Reasoning: Analogies

Explanation:

The given question:   Milk :  Cow :: Chair :   ?

A cow gives us milk.  Trees give us wood (we can make a chair, table and many other furniture using wood).

So the answer is TREE.

Example 4: Analogy (Logical Reasoning)

Logical Reasoning: Analogies

Explanation:

The given question:   Cup :  Coffee :: Bowl :   ?

We take coffee from a cup. Also, we have soup from a bowl.

So the answer is  SOUP.

Example 5: Analogy (Logical Reasoning)

Logical Reasoning

Options:

(a) Lion   (b) bird   (c) Octopus  (d) lily

Explanation:
The given question:   Nest :  Bird :: Cave :   ?

Birds live in their nest. Similarly, Lion stays in a cave.

We have to observe the given options to make the correct choice. Because some of the relations may not be a unique one.

Planty of such an example of analogies can be formed. It is the fact that the practice would make you more confident to deal with such questions on logical reasoning. These kinds of questions are frequently being asked in the competitive exams. So regular practice with diversified questions is important. One such useful app is MATH QUIZ app. I have personally used this free app. I found this very helpful for improving my logical skills. So it is a recommendation to use such application.
