Five fun ways to boost your kid's math skill:


Counting:

In the early days, human beings used to count using fingers, stones, sticks, pebbles, etc. This method of counting uses Non-Positional Number System, which follows an additive approach. Since it is very easy to understand and to grab the idea, start teaching them the counting using objects like sticks, stones, and other stuffs.

Engage your kid's in various counting activities. For example ask your kid to count the plants when you are in a garden. Ask them to count the number of staircases in the metro station and so on. Counting is an integral part of improving the math skill.


Interactive games:

Engage them with interactive games and keep a reward for a win. A simple idea to create such a game is the following. Take a box and keep a few stuffs like stones, sticks, etc. Then expose the box in front of them for few minutes and close the box. Then ask them what are the things are there inside the box? You can ask the quantity of each stuff. Most of the children love to teach. So ask to teach you and take part in interactive games pretending you as a student.

Ask them to make doodles about mathematics. It will definitely create a new logical world around them. Doodling makes them improve the abstract world of thinking. Arrange a doodle competition at home and stick the doodles in the wall as a wall art.

Abacus: 


Abacus is a counting tool that was used in ancient times. Regular practices will definitely increase counting skills as well as develop a mathematical mind. Researchers found that frequent and regular scheduled quizzing is associated with pedagogically desirable outcomes such as higher performance on exams and classroom participation. Research also suggests that regular quizzing helps to maintain a regular reading and study schedule and they are more likely to finish assigned reading before class.

Most of the kids consider quizzes as a fun. Answering a quiz needs adequate attention. This means that participation in quizzes in a regular manner will help them concentrate.

Since they may fail to pay attention to reading textbooks,  engage your kids to quizzes with colorful illustrations which will help to take the 'fear' out of the area of numeracy. Concentration:

Concentration is the secret formula to boost your child's math skills. So, you can try to train and strengthen a child's ability to concentrate and pay attention by engaging them in concentration games that need thinking, designing, and also the use of memory. 

Nowadays electronic gadgets are easily available to the kids. You have to make sure the limited use of Television, Mobiles, IPad, etc in front of them because ambience plays a vital role in creating concentration.



Sound sleep and even small 30 minutes nap help to boost concentration. So make sure a good night's rest and at least a power nap in a day.
